Cumberland, New York (probably the present New Hartford, Oneida County), contested the will [of his father] and succeeded in breaking the entail by judgment of the Superior Court, Sept. 1773."(175)

According to conflicting evidence, he married Esther Mason December 9, 1768 in Lebanon, Windham Co, CT.(277) During the Revolutionary War he served in the Connecticut and Continental Line.(278)

In the 1800 Census, Daniel was listed as a head of household in Windham Co, CT.(279) He and his wife were age 45+, with two young women 16-25, a boy and two girls 10-15, and a girl under age 10. He was called "Colo. Dan'l Tillden."

Daniel moved with his family in 1815 to Herkimer Co, NY.(280) Daniel applied for a Revolutionary War military pension 5 Dec 1818 in Warren, Herkimer Co, NY.(281) In the 1820 Census, Daniel was listed as a head of household in Herkimer Co, NY. In 1821, in his pension papers, he stated that he had only three children at home, viz. "Ester, Josiah & Harriet Tilden & he stated Josiah was the only one able to support himself."(282)

Daniel moved to Portage Co, OH in 1822.(283) Daniel reapplied for a Revolutionary War military pension 30 March 1833 in Portage Co, OH.(284)

Daniel Tilden and Esther Mason had the following children:

In Dorothy's pension application 4 Jan 1839, she mentioned "children" living, but named only Lucretia.

In the 1800 Census, Joshua was listed as a head of household in Tolland Co, CT.(309) He and his wife were age 45+, with two young women 16-25 and a boy and a girl 10-15.

The 1810 census listed Joshua as head of household 1810 in Coventry, Tolland Co, CT.(310) He and his wife were age 45+, with a man 26-44, a young man and two young women 16-25, a boy 10-15, and a boy and a girl under age 10.

Joshua applied for a Revolutionary War military pension June 19, 1819 in Coventry, Tolland Co, CT.(311)
