1. Arthur1 Marckhaum Collector (#223) birth date unknown.
This is just a collector for stray people named Arthur Markham or Marcum, so I can keep an eye on them, and get them into my index.
Arthur Marckhaum Collector had the following children:
He's probably related to Thomas Markum of Lawrence Co. AR, age 40-something in the 1830 census of Larence County. Arthur could be the 15-19 year old male in Thomas's 1830 census record.
First, a geographical note. The original Parish of Farnham was in Old Rappahannock County. When that county was divided into Essex and Richmond Counties, respectively south and north of the Rappahannock River, the parish was split into South Farnham and North Farnham. The town of Farnham is located in Richmond County.
Richmond County is a considerable distance from Henrico and other counties along the James River. It seems likely that if any Markhams resided there, they would most likely have been connected to the Westmoreland County branch of the family.
Researcher Pamela Hutchinson Garrett(5) noted that the Episcopal Church Register of North Farnham was extremely difficult to read. In his book,(6) George H. S. King mentioned that the original register has not survived; what exists are two copies made in the 18th century. It may be that one of those copies is more easily read than the other.
Pam Garrett found (in addition to the death of Arthur Markham):
-- Born: Elinor, dau of Arthur and Frances Markham 1717
-- Born: Frances, dau of Arthur and Frances Markham 6 Feb 1723
-- John N Markham departed this life 12 Feb 1724/25
-- Elizabeth Markham departed this life 2 Oct 1730.
George King found:
-- Born: McMhhann, Thomas son of Arthur and Frances McMohhann, 18 June 1715
-- Born: McMohhann, Eleanor dau of Arthur and Frances McMohhann, 4 May 1718
-- Born: McMohhann, John son of Arthur and Frances McMohhann, 18 March 1720/1
-- Born: McMauhan, Frances dau of Arthur and Frances McMauhan, 6 Feb 1723/4
-- Died: McMauhan, John 18 February 1724/5
-- Born: McMalian, Mary dau of Arthur and Frances McMalian, 23 May 1730
-- Died: McMahon, Arthur 31 March 1734
-- Born: McMahone, Winny a bastard child of Frances McMahone, 6 June 1750.
----
The present author tends to believe the McMahon reading, on the grounds that middle initials, e.g. Arthur N. Markham, were rarely used in the 1730s.
There seems to be nothing to exclude this man as a candidate for the father of Arthur Marcum of Gallatin Co. KY, except that he doesn't have three other sons to show up on the 1840 Gallatin County tax list.
